Washington, May 18. - Great pressure las been brought to bear on the presilent fcr changes in certain branches of the civil service, especially since. the meetings oL the senate committee invesligating the wurkings of the civil service. The main propositions in the reforms demanded are briefly as folio ws. 1. The abolition of the rule allowing reinstatement of government employés without exarr.ination only within one year from the time of their removal from the service. 2. The exception from examination oí all ehiefs of divisions, superintendents and foremen, and all offlcials whose duties are of an executive character. 3. The issuing of a general order rescinding all extensions of thé classiied service made since President Harrison's administra tion. The president has given no int?mation as tü what course he will pursue.
