Dear Sir,- I hereby tender my resignation as supervisor for the First Ward City of Ann Arbor, Michigan. It is proper for me to state that I was elected to this office in my absence and without any knowledge on my part that I was being voted for. To the Common Council: The Board of Public Works presents the estimate of the engineer for gradSprint; st. at the córner of Hiscock, which the Board considers a necessary public improvement and recommend that $175.00 be appropriated to do the wnrk. Respectfully submitted, Glen V. Mills, Clerk of the Board of Public_Works. Aid. Brown moved that the recommendation be concurred in. Adopted as follows: Yeas- Aid. Tne Board of Public Works would respectfully recommend that $150,00 be appropriated from the Street Fund to complete the grading on W. Huron st. and lower the sidewalk in front of Mr. Crookston's property. Respectfully, Glen V. Mills, Clerk of the Board of Public Works. Aid'. Dell moved that the recommendation be concurred in. To the Common Council, The Board of Public Works refers the bids of Mast & Eagle at 9 cents per toot for laying the tile drain on S. Fifth ave. and $10 each for catch basins. Koch Bros. at $95 for extending the culvert un Seventh st., near Jefferson, on the east end or both ends for $150. These bids are the lowest presented for the proposed improvements and the Board would recommend their approval by the Council. The Board would further recommend that the culvert on S. Seventh st. be extended to the property line on both ends according to the bid of Koch Bros. Respectfully submitted, Glen V. Mills, Clerk of the Board of Public Works. Aid. A petition signed by S. G. Miller and four others asking tor a sidewalk on Prospect st. was read and referred to the Sidewalk Committee. A petition signed by Mrs. Minnie Reyer asking for damages done her property by storm water was read and referred to the Street Committee. A petition signed by Philip Exinger and mne others protesting agaiust the construction of a sidewalk on Wall st. was read and referred to the Sidewalk Committee. A petition signed by Joseph T. Jacobus and 10 others asking for the construction of a storm sewer at the corner of Fourth ave. and Depot st. was read and referred to the Street Commissioner. A petition signed by Jas. E. Harkins and 13 others asking for the paving of the gutter along Main and Felch "sts. was read and referred to the Street Committee. A petition signed by Albert Teufel and 16 others asking for paved gutter on Hill st. was read and referred to the Street Committee. A petition signed by C. Howell and 26 others asking for the grading of Geddes ave.. was read and referred to the Street Committee. A petition signed by Tred Hintz and 100 others asking for the Council to take action relative to the discounting of labor claims was read to the Council. Aid. Whereas, it appears and is hereby determined that to enable the City of Ann Arbor during the year of 1897 and 1898 to keep and maintain in good order and repair the several bridges, culverts and crosswalks a sum of money in the excess of the per cent authorised to be raised under the authority granted by the Charter is and will be necessary, therefore Resolved, That by virtue of the authority granted to this Council by the general law of' the State, the sum of $501)000 be and the same is hereby appropriated. levieü and assessed on the taxable property aforesaid for the bridge, cuivert and crosswalk fund, for the purpose of keeping and maintaining in good order and repair, the several bridges, culverls and crosswalks in the city. Chairman Cady presented the Ordinance entitled ''Ad Ordinance Relative o the Pavement of Streets" which was jlaced upon its thir.d reading by secáons. Aid. Brown moved toamend seotion 3 y inserting the words "the constructen thereof per front foot" in place of 'advertisement" in the fifth line. Aid. Koch moved as an amendment ;hat the paving ordinance be postponed until the next regular session. Adopted. SEWERS. fo the Common Council : Your Committee on Sewers to whom was referred the petition of certain property owners on West Liberty-st. asking for the construction of a lateral sewer on and along said street would report that on the 2nd day of June 1897 your committee sat ai the office of the City Clerk f rom 10 a. m. to 4 p. m., according to a notice duly published in the official newspapers of the City of Ann Arbor, for the purpose of hearing persons interested in said sewer construction. From the facts there obtained your committee are of the opinión that the building of a lateral sewer on and along said West Liberty street running west from the Main Sewer to the east line of South Ttb street is a necessary public improvement and would therefore recommend that the City Engineer be directed to draw plans, profile and estimate for the construction of the same and submit said plans, profile and estimate to this Council at the next regular session. And further your committee woulc recommend that the gutter on the eas side of State street be raised so as to throw the water north from William street also that the Street Commission er furnish dirt and paving stone for lawn extensión and gutter along the west side of 13th between Hurou and Ann.
