Ad old and highly respectad resident of Washtenaw oonnty passed from atnoug ns Saturday eveniDg when Christian Rayer died at his residence 58 S. Fifth ave., of heart disease, aged 73 yeais. Mr. Rayet was born in Islington, Germany, in 1824, aud when 27 yeara of age carne to America. He settled in Pittsfleld on the farm now occnpied by his son Herman Rayer. He was married in 1857 to Miss Mary S. Staebler, whó with their five children Cbristian and Ed., of Portland, Ore., Herman aud Robert, of Pittsfleld, and Emrua, who lived with her parents, urvive hiru. By industry and econoruy Mr. and Mrs. Rayer accnmulated a nice property and four years ago they eft the farm aud carne to Aun Arbor o reside in the pleasant home he had built on S. Fifth ave. The funeral services were held Tnesday afternoon at 2 o'clock and at Zion jutherau chnrch at 2:30 and were argely attended. Rev. A. L. Nicklas onducted the services. Tbe remains veie laid to rest in Foresc Hill cemeery.
