Auburn, N. Y., June 29.- Robert J. Powley was electrocuted at 11:25 o'clock Tuesday mcrning. Tha execution was successful. The crime for which Robert J. Powley was executed was the murder of hig wife, committed on the night of March 8 at NiƔgara Falls, N. Y. Powley at the time of the murder was urtder indictment for criminal assault in the second degree and had been released on his own recognizance. Some time previous he had been tried for attempting to chloroform his wife, tne Jury disagreeing on the hrst trial and acquitting him on the second. Powley's attorney attempted to prove that he was mentally irresponsible at the time of the shooting. Witnesses testified that he had been injured in the head fifteen years ago and that he had suffered from sunstroke on two different occasions.
