The National Association of Eloeutionists, whioh closed its sixth annual gatberiug last Friday, Jnly 2, at New York City, did a wise tbing when it eleoted Prof. Thomas C. Trueblood, of Adii Arbor, president of the association. The New York Tribune speaks thus in its issue uf July 3, of the learned professor : Thomas C. alood, the new president of the assooiation, is the professor of elocntioD and oratory iu the University of Michigan, at Ann Atbor. He ia a native of Southern Indiana and a gradaste of Earlbam College, from whioh institution he received his degree of A. M. In early youth good training in plain, expressive reading awakened in him a desire to become an accomplished public reader and teacher of the arts of elocution and oratory. To this end he studied assidoonsly with the best rnaaters in this country and in England, notably the late James E. Murdoch, to whose guidance and inspiration Mr. Trueblood feels deeply indebted for his iuBight into the Rush philosophy, and the late Professor Charles J. Plunitie, ot King's College, London. As a reader Professor Trueblood is well known throughout the West. His readings are taken from the best literatura, with speoial attention to Shakespeare. In addition to his teaohiug and platform work, he has collaborated with Professor Fulton in the compiling of "Choice Readings" anĂ¼ iu the writng of "Practical Elecution," "Chart of Vocal Exprtssion," "Critics' Tablet,"' and "Introduction toStickney's Fifth Reader."
