Rev. Lewis P. Davis, of 70 Hendrie ave., Detroit, presiding eider of tbe Adrián district of Detroit conference, M. E. chnrch, died suddenly at 4:40 o'clock Monday morining in Bay View, where he had been conducting a carnp meeting. The cause of his death is supposed to be frouj apoplexy, he having suífered a slight stroke at Sanlt Ste. Marie some weeks ago. He recovered from this, and was in very good health np to Sunday night. Tbe remains were taken to Detroit for interment Wednesday afternoou. Rev. Mr. Davis was well known all over tbe district, and in Detroit, where he had lived for the past 10 years. He was pastor of the Liuooln ave. M. E. church for flve years, and held the position of presiding eider of the Adrián district for the last fiva years. He was boru in Macomb ooudty, December 31, 1839, and was a gradnate of tbe Northwestern University and the Garret Biblioal Institntion, of Chicago. Mr. Davis had been preaching for 35 years, and all his work had been in this state. Before coming to Detroit, he was pastor of churches in West Bay City, Dexter and Plyinoutb, and was also presiding eider of the Alpeua distriot. Mr. Davis was in the United States army tbree years during the civil war, entering as a orivate and leaving as lieutenant of the 22d Michigan volunteer infantry. He leaves a wife and two grown children. His faraily will have the synipathy of all friends in and out of the M. E. church. A week ago last Sunday he was in Ann Arbor.
