Death Of Mrs. Jacob Volland

Mrs. Sophia Volland, M. D., died at her home 37 Thompson st. , on Saturday, after a lingering illness eansed by the grip and hay fever, aged 70 years. The fnneral services were held at the honse Monday afternoon at 5 o'clook, Rev. J. T. Snnderland offioiating. Mrs. Volland's maideu name was Dean and she was born in Sandy Hill, N. Y. She graduated f rom tlie Macedón Aoademy, to which place her pareuts bad moved, and in August, 1848, was married to Jacob Volland, the harness maker, who is oue of the early pioneers of Ann Arbor. In 1877 she graduated from the medical departrnent of the Univereity of Michigan and tbus realized one of the desires of her life. Her aged husband, one sou, Prof. A. J. Volland, of Grand Rapids. and one daughter Miss Lillian Vollaud, of this city, survive her.
