WeSt öUpeilUI, V IC, UUijr xo. i-uc wis steel bridge uniting Superior and Duluth was opened for traffic at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon with appropriate ceremonies. At that hour Mayor Truelsen of Duluth and Mayor Starkweather of Superior, with prominent citizens from either city, met 'upon the great draw span, which is the third largest in the world, and in the presence of the thousands of spectators, with appropriate speeches, the whistle of vessels, the blare of brass bands, formally opened the great highway. The center draw is 491 feet long and weighs 2,200 tons; total length of bridge is 1,094 feet between approaches. A clear waterway of 200 feet is opened on either side of the draw pier when the apan is swung. Tugs and small vessels pass under without swinging the draw. Electricity is the power used in swinging the span, which makes the turn in twenty seconds. The structure is flftyeight feet wide, arranged for two railway tracks, besides street railway, wagon and foot passenger ways, and cost ahnnr il. 000.000.
