Hotel Champlain, N. Y., Aug. 17.- The president and immediate friends accepted an invitation to a yachting party Tuesday given by the owner of the yacht Washita, Mr. Putnam. The party consisting of the president and Mrs. McKinley, Vice President and Mrs. Hobart, Secretary of War and Mrs. Alger, Mrs. Bailey, Miss Alger, Hon. C. N. Eliss of New York, and Mr. Hall of New York, started from Hotel Champlain at 11 o'clock. Mr. F. S. Witherbee, who had just arrived from Newport, upon meeting the president received a personal invitation to the yatching party, which he accepted. The trip was to an island owned by Mr. Putnam and locateĆ” at Essex, N. Y., for luncheon.
