Shot A Pine Chopper

Crystal Falls, Mich., Aug. 24.- A messenger from Atkinson, this county, says that Barney Morgan, a homesteader on Jand, shct ene of the men employed by the Metropolitan Lumber company in cutting the pine claimed by Morgan. The !umber company purchased the land from the canal company and started operations recently. The homesteaders declare they wil} not allow the timber to be cut and are patrolling the woods with rifles. Several deputy sheriffs are on the scène and Sheriff Waite has left for there. Many of the homesteaders are desperate men and serious trouble is locked for.
