The opening nuiuber of the Stndeuts' Lectura Aesociatiou ia November will be a lectute by the world famed Norwegiau Arctio explorer Dr. Nanseu. He is a fluent English speaker and au account of nis wouderful adventures in tbe land of ice and snow will be oue of a most thiilliug and interesting nature At this time when so much interest centers abont tbe luovements of carrier pigeons and the great desire to bear from M. Andree, anotber Arctic plorer, is so intense, it is probable that the following, takeu from the London Times, aud copied in all the leading European papers, will be of interest to our readers. It will be seen tbat it is by do means an impossible thing to hear from Audree, sbould he be successfnl, by pigeons, as should bo reaob the exact location of tbe Pole, it would only be one huudred and tweuty miles farther thau this message caiiie by this carrier pigeou fronrDr. Nauseu to Mrs Nansen. "One óay a woudeiful bird tapped at the wiudow of Mrs. Nauseu's home at Christiaua. Instantly the window was opeued, aud the wife of the famous Arctic explorar iu another ruinute covered the little rnessenger with kisses. The carrier pigeon had been away from the cottage thirty loug moDths, but had not forgotten the way home. It brought a note from Nansen stating that all was well with him and his expedition in the Polar regious. Nansen nad fastened a message to a carrier pigeon and turued the bird louse. The frail carrier darted out into the blizzardly air, it flew like an arrcw over a thousand miles of frozeu waste, aud then eped forwaid over another thousaud miles of ocean aud plains and forests, and one morning entered the wiudow of the waitiug mistress, and dolivered the message which she had been awaiting so ausiously. We boast of human pluck, sagaoity, and endarauce; but tbis loving little carrier pigeon, in its horneward flight after an absence of thirty rnonths, acoomplished a feat so wouderful tuat we oan only give ourselves np to the amazement aDd admiration which must overwbelro every one when the niarvelons story is tuld. Mrs. ISlansen's pigeon is one of the wonders of the worJd " Times. Walter C. Mack is now in New York pioking up the very latest novelties to be found íd that great city for Maok & Co. 's several stores. While the bulk of all their dry goods, dress goods, worsteds, flannels, etc. were purchased several rnonths ago when these goods had reached the lowest point íd prioe ever knowa, there are always many late novelties for ladies' wear brought ont at this time of tbe year not possible to pnrchase earlier and whicb Mr. Maok is desirons of securing for bis big establishment. He is anxious that nothing shall be oruitted that will add to the attractions of "The Store."
