Laying Wires To Get State Offices
It ieaked ont at the recent soldiers' aud sailnrs' eucampment at Grand Rapids that Col. C. V. E. Poud, assistant adjutant general of the departmeut of Michigan, G. A. R., has politica] aspirations and wants to be the oandidate on the repnblican ticket at the uext eleotiou for seoretary of state, Attorney General Fred Maynard is also uot yet tired of office, but he is anxious for a cbange. He wonld like to succeed Judge C. B. Grant on the supreme oonrt bench. Judge Graut's term expires uext, and Maynard wants to be the Pingree candidate for the job. It is a well knowu faot that the governor and his lieutenants have no love for Judge Grant. Maynard, it is said bas already served uotice of his intentions on Justice Graut, who will doubtless expect a renomination since he has served but one term.
