The United States Civil Service Commission has ordered tbat an exaininatiou be beid by its local board in tbis city on Satnrday, December 4, 1897, coramencing at 9 o'clock a. m., for the grades of olerk aud carrier in the classiƱed postal service. Only citizens of the United States oau be examined. The age limitatious for this exaniination are als follows: Carrier, 21-40; olerk, 18 or over. No application Will be accepted for this examination unlees filed with the nndersigned, in complete form, on the proper blank, before the hour of closing business on November 13, 1897. Aplpioations should be filed promptly, therefore, iu order that time may remain for correotion if necessary. The oommission takes this opportuuity of stating that tbe exarninations are open to all reputable citizens of the United States who may desire to enter the service, without regard to race or to their political or religious afflliations. All such nitizens are invited to apyly. They shall be examiued, graded, aud certified with eutire impartiality, and wholly without regard to any cousidoration save their efficiency, as shown by the grades they obtain in the examinatiou. For application blanks, full instructions, and infurruation relative to the duties aud salaries of the different positions, apply to JMiss S. G. Come, Secretary Board of Examiners, U. S.
