Before the war for American independeré the American Episcopalians, who were eonnected with the English ■church, wero uever suffered to have a bishop among them, but remained uiider the jurisdiction of the bishop of London. The rite of confirmatiou was unknown, and every candidate for ordinatiou was obliged to travel to Englaad. Out of 52 candidates who came f rom America for ordination in 1767 10 died ou the voyage. At length, af ter the United States had been declared independent, Dr. Scabury was ordained bishop of Ccnneetieut by the primus aad bishops of Seotland, the prelates of the English church having refused to consécrate him. - London News.
