The post office department has adopted a policy oí' general extensión of the money order system. During the past fiscal year almost 27.000,000 mouey orders were issued, amounting to little less than $200,000,000. The total uumber of money order offlces now in operation is about 22,000, and the number piobably will be increasetl tö 30,000 before the next fiscal year General Superintendent Metcaif, of the money order office, said today that the cost to the department of maintaining a money order service at a post office is less than five cents a year, even if the office transacts no money order busi ness. lf it issues orders amounting to $10 it is a so urce of reverme and helps pay the general postal expenses. The money order business now brings to the government a gross reven ue of $1,000,000 in fees, ruostly net, and accordingly the more money orders isMiied the more revenue.
