Prof. Dean C. Worcester delivered he opening lectute in the Unity Club onrse at the Unitarian churcb Monday vening, on "The Pbilippine Islands," where he lived for nearly foor years. He attributed the present revolt against Spain to oppressive government, exorbitant taxation and a corupt priesthood. He desoribed the brutal ill usage that h meted out to the unfortunate inhabiants, the terrible taxes, and said that when he was on the islands Weyler, the intcher, was the governor-general. [is salary was $50,000 a year but in bree years he deposited nearly $4,000,00 of "savings."
