Among other amnsing incidents wbich bappened at the fair grounds Tnesday dnring the race, one occurred between the fiist and second beats when Charlie Schott met Frank Ortman and ofïered to wager bim that Luln V. woald win. Mr. Ortman deliberated a moment and offered to bet two to one tbat Belle H. would come "in bead first". Mr. Sohott, with bis usual promptness to grab a good thing, took it but reconsidered a moment after, and then put in ten minutes trying to bribe Tom Hessions to back the borse over the wire. Hessions ' agreed to but explained after the race that in the excitement of the finish he forgot all about it. Now Sohott savs he was donble-crossed
