Council Chambee., I Ano Arbor, Deo. 21, 1897. i Regular session. Cailed to order by Pres. Luick. Roll called ; quoram present. Absent, Aid. Grossman. Brown, Vandawarker, Spathelf. PETITIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS. A petition signed by Edson Wetherbee as kin?: íor damages for alleged injuries, was retid and referred to the t'inancu Committee and City Attoxney. A petition signed by IN'ieholas Miller askintí fordamages for alleged injuries, was rsad and referred to the Pinance Committee and City Atiorney. A petition signed by The Ransom andolph Co., asking for the return of certain taxes, was reau and referred to the Finance Cointmttee and City Attorney. A petition signed by D. M. Cowie, City Pbysician, asking for a telephone to be furnished by the city, vvas read. Aid. Cady moved that the request be granted by the council. Adopted as follovvs: Yeas - Aid. Koob moved that the request of Dr. Kapp be jrrantád. Adopted as follows : Yeas- Aid. Moore, Hamilton, Koch, Dell, Sweet, Raodes, Soule, Coon, Danforth, Cady, Pres. Luick.- 11. Nays - None. To the Common Counoil: The Board of Public Works respectfully report to your honorable body, that Schneider Bros. filed with them a claim for extras in sewerdistrict No. 6 for $100. We referred the same to the City Engineer and City Attorney, who recommended the allowance of the bill. We vefer the same to your honorable body for approval. Respeotfully submitted; Glen V. Mills, Clerk of the Board of Public Works. Aid. Koch moved that the Council concur in the report Adopted as follows : Yeas- Aid. Moore, Hamilton, Koch, Dell, Sweet Rhodes, Soule, Coon, Danforth, Cady, Pres. Luick.- 11. Nays - None. R.EPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES. STRSETS. ro the Common Council. Your Committee on Streets t o whom was referred the communication of the Board of Public Works would recommend : First - That the Ann Arbor Water Co., and the Ann Arbor Gas Co. be ordered within sixty days to lay con nections to buildings Main street between Catherine an d Liberty, and to inspect their mains and pipes along said street and see that the same are in good condition. Second - That the Ann Arbor Electric Co., the Western Union Telegraph Co., the Postal Telegraph-Cable Co., the Michigan Telephone Co., and the New State Telephone Co. be ordered within sixty days to lay all their wires under ground that ' run along Main street between Catherine and Liberty. That the Ann Arbor Electric Co. be directed to place iron poles along Main street between the above named streets for the support of the are lights. Third - That the Ann Arbor & Ypsilanti Electric Railway Co. be ordered within sixtv davs to place iron poles along Main Street betvveen Catherine and Liberty and further that said Raüway Co. be ordered prior to April lst, 1898, to procure and have delivered upon said street steel ties and rails to lay along said street between the streets above stated. And furtber it is resolved by the Common Council of the City of Anti Arbor that after the completion of any pavement in this City, that any person, persons, firm or Corporation who may tear up the same for repairs to any street railway, water, or gas pipes, electric conduits or any other improvement, that they will be required to jlace the same back in as good condiïon as the original pavement and dejosit with the City of Ann Arbor a suficient amount to pay an inspector to uperintend such work and see tnat tho ame is doneaccording tospecifications. Groves assistant engineer during the winter. A)d. Coon moved that the subject be referred to the Sewer and b'inance committees. - Adopted. RESOLUTIONS. By Aid. Khodes. Whereas, There is in Congress a bilí known as the anti-ticketscalping bill (H. E, No. 30): and, Whereas, We believe that said bil] will encourage discrimination i rates and pool-forming by the railroads of the United States, besides unwarrantable interference with rights vested in the purchasers and holders oi' raiiroac tickets; therefore, be it Resolved, That the Mayor and Cotnmon Councii of the City of Ann Arbot respectfully urge our senators and representativés in Congress to use their influence to defeat the said bill. Aid. Dell moved to lay the resolution on the table. Lost as follows : Yeas- Aid. Hamilton, Koen, Dell Sweet. -4. Nays- Aid. Moore, Rhodes, Soule, Coon, Danforth, Cady, Pres. Luick.- 7 Whereupon the original resolution was adopted as follows: Yeas - Aid. Moore, Rhodes, Soule Coon, Danforth, Cady, Pres. Luick. - 7 Nays.- Aid. Hamilton, Koch, Dell Sweet. - 4.
