Marquette, Mich., Jan. 11.- William L. Wetmore, one of the landmarks of the Lake Superior country, died at his home in this city. He was . . years of age and has been in active business in this section of the Upper PenĂ­nsula since 1856. In the early days he was prominent in the shipping and iron mining business, in which he built up a fortune only to be swept away in the panic of 1S71. He was at one time a partner with Samuel J. Tilden in the New York mine, but the partnership finally broke up in a litigation that lasted severa! years.
