One of the most serious objeotions to continual mulching is that it tends to encourage shallow rooting. In pruning roses, outting bock olosely produces as a rule fewer bloorns, while bushes not eo closely pruned will yield smaller blooms. The careful planter wlll see to it that there is as little exposure of the roots as possible bet ween the time of taking up and planting out.
