Duriug thefallmonths of 1897, Labor Coinnrissioner Cox oaused a special oanvass to be made aruoDg thousands of laboring rueii to asoertain the average wagaa they were being paid thronghout the state. The resnlt of bis invesfcigatioos showed that 70 maobine type setters weie paid an average of $3.70 a day of eight hours and bad employnient 11 mouths in the year, which was the higbest rate paid to any skilied labor. The Jowest rate paid was to molders $1.25 per day with eight rnoĆ¼ths employment dnring the year.
