Passenger and Freight Rates on American Railways. An article by Frank Weldon iu the Atlanta Conatitntion for April 11, 1897, says: "All the railroads in the United States, that ia, as a whole, have been getting less and less every year for six years. In 1890 their total reoeipts were $50,000,000 more than they were five years later. This wa8 not due to a falling off in busiuess, beoause they hanled 12 per oen t more freight, and gor 15 per cent less for it.
