An Old Joke Recalled

H. .leffords, of tbe 4th Mich, Iufantry, was at the time attending law lectores at Ann Arbor; a fellow who has relatives still living in Wasbtenaw eoQiity was a persistent oaller. On oue of these oooasions he noticed a bcttle of liqnid something on the table aud euquired its catare. 'Bair oil,' said the embryo oolonnl, 'Try it. ' This the caller prooeeded to do. He had never seen a bottle of mocilage and be soon wished he bad not eeen one. It is needless to say tbat the relations between Jeffords and the caller beoame at once more strained tban tbose between tbe United States and Spain at this time."
