Now that tbere is a revival in tbe sheep growing indnstry, a word of oaution may be ueeded against trying to raise sbeep on low or wet land Tbe natural habits of tbe sbeep is on bigb land often rook lande. By oontaot with rocks and stones tbe hoofs of tbe sbeep ate natnrally prnned. Wben tbey are kept on low, wet gronnd the hoof grows long, and being very little sensitive it is easily softened nutil it begins to rot. Tbere can be no doubt tbat tbis is caused by some germ, for rnbbing tbe hoof with blue vitriol, wbich is one of tbe best germ killer3, will destroy it. But tbe germ seems to be indigenovs to all wet lands wbere sbeep are kept, and it is tbe worst affaotion witb wbinb sbeep can be afflioted. When it cnoe iets into a flock it can be oarried to and that is high and dry, and will propágate tbere.
