Lansing, Mi-cb., Maroh 13. - AUhougrh Seeretary of War Alger was the first Michigan man to join theGrand Armyof the Republic an dwas the firstcommander of the Michigan department, thelatter fact has been lost sight of and only established a few months ago by the recovery of lost records. These were accepted at the last national encampment, and the oommander and adjutant of the Michigan department have just returned from Washington, where they presented General Alger with a past department rommander's badge.
