Professor Carbart of the physics departiuent of tbe Uuiversity of Michigan repoits that tbe campus portion of tbe new electrio lichting plant is now oompleted. Fonr tbonsand inoandesoent lamps and 82 aro ligbts have been placed on tbe campus. Tbere vill be 600 more incandescent lights at tbe hospitáis and the observatory. Tbe distribution on tbe oainpus is entiiely under gronnd, but overhead wires carry the current frotn the power bonse to tbe hospitals. In tbis way tbe bospitals are lighted from the main power house nntil 10:30 at nigbt, wben tbe small maobine at tbe hospital power bon.se is started, and ourrent transmitted back to supply tha few ligbts needed on the oampus after tbat hour. Tbe aro ligbts on the grounds ruay be snpplied from the same souroe at least till midoight. Tbe bigb eleotric pressure of tbe system makes it possible to run large eleotrio motors from tbe oirouits supplying tbe ligbting. Tbus in tbe cbemioal building, tbe blowers are run by fonr eleotrio motors, tbe pbysical laboratory has tbree motors, the planer in the oarpenter shop, a circular saw and ctber wood working maohines are run by motors. It is expected tbat the shops will all be ruu by the same power. The CoJumbian organ now receiyep its power from the ligbting circuit.
