Paris is probably the only city in the world 'whicb bas trees that bloom twice year habitually. These are the horse cbestnnts. There are 17,000 of them planted in the squares and along the boulevards, and 26,000 button woods. The trees in Paris are numbered, jnst like the people, the cabs, the animáis, the lampposts and the matches. These horse chestnuts have only been doing this triek for about five years, and only ■ome of them have made a practico of it. These die, or apparently die, in the latter part of Jnly, and all the leaves fall off. A month or so afterward they 11 come out into flower again and little green leaves shootforth continually nntil they are nipped by the first frost. There is a reason for this, and the scientists worked over the matter for a long time to be able to ezplain : it. Briefiy and nnscientifically the 'trees lose their leaves because tbey are attacked by a little f ungns which is blown npon them by the wind; then, being still f uil of sap, they start to put forth leaves all over again. .
