Acoording to a list reoently prepaied by the nniversity librarían, the general library has reoeived sinoe the fouudiug of the nniversity gifts in money amonnting to $1,581.22; in books, to 14,065 volnmes. Fred Heffelbower, a gradúate student, has just been awarded a $650 scholarship at Columbia college, New York. Tbe honor carne after exatnination of bis treaíise in the military terrus used in Ceasar's writings. The seooud annual sooial of the Tech Glee and Mandolín Clubs, held at Granger'sFriday uight.was a sucoess in every way. The sooial was strictly a "stag" affair, but the absence of the ladies did uot seem to detraot auy from the enjoyment of tbose present. Actiug-President Hntchins, of the university, will speak at the next meeting of the Alumni Assooiation of JMaoomb oounty, wbich take3 place April 22. This association is large and flourishing and bas been in existence a number of years. Ie supports a scholarship at tbe uuiversity. Several of tbe baseball playera in the university wbo are ineligible to play on tbe :Varsity nine have organizad a team under the name of the U. of M. Ineligibles. The team will play several games duriDg the spring vacation and wbea tbe 'Varsity returns from the spring trip wlil line up agaiust them in several games. There are at present 159 acoredited diploma sobools on the university list. Of thesa 53 are to be re-examined this spring. There are also 25 uew ones whioh have aBked to be placed on the list and will be inspeoted soon. During this week, therefore, the various professors, who attend to this work, Will visit ?9 schools in all. The university of Michigan bas invited Prof. S. Percy Gardner, of Oxford College, England, to speak at the university May 9tand 10. Prof. Garduer holds the ohair of Greek aud Claesical Philology at Oxford, and is tbe editor of a series of bandbooks on Arohaeology. He is also an anthority upon ancient coins. The subjeots of Prof. Gardners lectures will be, "The Relation of Arobaeology to History, " and the "Acrópolis as a Background to History." Possibly tbe last subject may be cbanged to "Greek aud Bomen Portraits. "
