The fifth annoai May Festival opened last eveuing at University ball and everyone of tbe oomfoitable theater chaira vas fllled and a larfe nninber of people sat od tbe steps in tbe aisles and stood op around tbe great audienoe rooms. Verdi's soperb and inspiring Alanzoni Requiem forined the program of the evening. It was renderfid by Mrs. Jennie Patriok Walker, sopraDo, Miss QertrudeMay Stein.contralto, Mr. William Rieger, tenor, William H. Howland, baritone, Gniseppe Del Puente, bass, tbe Cboral üniou of 300 voices, and tbe Boston Festival Orchestra. Prof. A. A. Stanley conducted the woik. Eaoh of the soloists were enthusiastically applauded for tbe beautifnl work th6y did : bnt tbe greatest meed of praise is dne to the Cboral Union for tbe best performance tbe organization bas ever given and to the orcbstra for its beantiful renderiog of the grand mnsio. Tliere are four other concerts at one of whicb Prof. Stanley's symphonio poem "Attis" will be performed. Tbe crowning attraotion will be tomorrow night's conoert when Wagner's "Flying Dntchman" will be sung with Mme. Johanna Gadski as Senta.
