The snit of Don C. Jewett against Florence McDonough-Jewett, to prevent the payment to her of $4,000 in death benefirs. came to a sadden termination in Jndge Lillibridge's court ia Detroit, Tuesday, a decree being entered for the defense. The complainant, for some unexplained reason, did not appear to prosecnte bis soit, and Frank T. Lodge, hia solictior, laid the matter before the court, withthe above result. Florence McDonongb, a yoong and attractive woman was stenographer for William H. Jewett, a former resident of Ypsilauti. who was engaged in business in Detroit. Later sbe nursed hiru dnring a severe illness and finally uiarried bim on what proved to be bis deathbed. Before he died Mr. Jewett sobadtnted her name for that of bis son, Don C. Jewett, as benefloiary in two daath benefits for 2,000 each in tbe A. O. U. W. and Knights of Honor. The son contested the payruent of the benefits, on the ground that tbe young woroan bad exerted an nndueinflaence over nis father, and tbat the latter was mentally inoompetent at the time the change was made. A sensational feature of the litigation was the exhuming of Mr. Jewett's remains, for the purpose of making a medical examinariou of bis brain. After the snit was started, Don C. Jewett's health failed tosuob an extent tbat he was forced to spend the past winter in California. Several unsnccessful attempts were made by tbe defense to bring tbe matter to a beaiing, the money being tied up in the hands of the two organizations. Yonng Jewett retnrned some time ago, but, for some reason, did not seeui inclined to push the case.
