In general orders No. 12, issued Friday from Grand Army headquarters,: G. A. R. posts throughout the state are urged to make a special effort to properly observe Memorial Day. Services aie urged in all churches on Sunday,May 29. The following paragraphs touching the present conflict, are taken from the orders: " As we scatter the sweet blossoms of springtiuie upon the grassy covers of our soldier dead in the cemeteries of Michigan, and gather at the 'soldiers lot' in remembrarice of our héroes resting in unknown graves, or in national cemeteries, let us hold in memory precious tbose brave boys, who while resting in quiet sleep within the walls of the ship they loved. the Stars and Stripes floating over them, were by a treacherous act diabolical, buried bèneath the waters in a haven they supposed to be of safety. 'Remember the Maine.' "As in former years cali to your assistance the noble band of helpers, the Woman's Relief Corps, the Sons of Veterans, and all citizens, particularly the school children, that the day by their help may be the more surely observed. "Let Memorial Day, 1898, be to all our comrades and the citizens of this, our state, a most impressively sacred day. As we remember the lead without flowers, we will not forget that thousands of our brave youths of today are in camp, as earnestly ftlled with the true love of their country as were we in 1861 to '65. "Let Memorial day, May 29th, 1898, be especially marked as one upon which no invasión of its sacredness was attempted, by the giving of it up to games and fancied amusements. "Tis the soldiers: memorial day.' "
