U. of M. Daily: Iu view of the present war with Spain it is interesting o know the nnmber of students of the University of Miohigan who took part n the civil war, and the records of ank attained by them. The total umber of graduates and non-gradnates p to 1865 who servecl in the army was 24. Only 56 of these oatae out priates, and of these 40 were non-gradntes. These are bigbly significant figres, sbowing whnt the training of the tnind will do for men in other than iurely iDtelleotual fields. üf these tudents 12 rose to the rank of brigaier-general, three of whom retnrned :or advanoed degrees af ter the war; became colonels, and 24 lieutenantolonels. Three ofjftbe lientenantolonels also carne back to the nniverity for a higner degree. There were 8 oaptains on the rolla. The medical epartruent sent a sm]l army of snreons nnmbering 152, while from other epartments 22 more went, having ained their medical training elsewbere.
