[official] Council Chambee, ) Ann Arbor, May lOth, 1898. f Regular Session. Ca) led to order by Pres. Luick. Roll called. Quorum present. Absent, Aid. Dieterle, Exinger, Brown. PETITIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS. A petition signed by Samuel Heffelbower and nine others asking for the grading of Yaugban st. was read and referred to the Street and Sidewalk Committees. A petition signed by A. McDonald and thirty-nine others askiug for a crosswalk at the corner of Clark and Catherine sts. was read and referred to the Sidewalk Committee. A petition signed by P. W. O'Brien and 25 others asking the macadamizing ot' E. Liberty st. was read and referred to the Street Committee. To the Common Council: The Board of Public Works would recommend that S75 be appropriated to grade the sidewalk on the west side of S. Seventh st. between Washington st. and the creek. Respectf ully submitted, Glen V. Mills, Clerk of the Board of Public Works. Aid. Koch moved that the Council concur in recommendation of the Board. Adopted as follows: Yeas- Aid. Hamilton, Richards, Koch, Sweet, Yandawarker, Spathelf, Weeks, Coou, Howell, Cady, Stevens, Pres. Luick- 12. Nays- None. To the Common Council: The Board of Public Works would recommend that the catch basins on Detroit st. be recoustructed. Respectfully submitted, Glen V. Mills, Clerk of the Board of Public Works. Aid. Hamilton moved that the communication be referred to the Street Committee. Adopted. To the Common Council: The Board of Public Works would refer the contract of Wm. J. Clancy for constructing the pavement in Pavenient District No. 2, also the bond for the faithful performance of the contract of $5,000 sigued by Wm. J. Clancy as principal and George M. Olarken as surety, and the bond for the payrnent of labor and material claims, signed by Wm. J. Clancy as principal, and George M. Clarken and Michael J. Fritz as sureties, and would recommend the approval of the same by the Council. Eespectfully submitted, Glen V. Mills, Clerk of the Board of Public Works. Adopted as folló ws: Yeas- Aid. Hamilton moved that the grade on Main st. be fixed so that no curb stone shall show a face to exceed fourteen inches. Adopted as follows: Yeas- Aid. Hamilton, Eichaids, Koch, Sweet, Vandawarker, Spathelf, Weeks, Coon, Howell, Cady, Stevens, Pres. Luick- 12. Nays- None. REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES. BONDS. To the Common Council: The Committee on Bonds would recommend the approval of the Bond of Edward L. Seyler as City Treasurer with Moses Seabolt, Daniel Hiscock, Oliver Martin, Martin M. Seabolt, Fred G. Schleicher, Leonhard Gruner, James H. Wade and Nelson J. Kyer as sureties. Eespectfully submitted, Frank Vandawarker, John Koch, Committee on Bonds. Adopted as follows: Yeas- Aid. Hamilton, Eichards, Koch, Sweet, Vandawarker, Spathelf, Weeks, Coon, Howell, Cady, Stevens, Pres. Luick- 12. Nays - None. 3y Aid. Cady: Kesolved, that the City Clerk be lireeted to secure proposals from the everals banks of the city f or the city noney for the ensuing year and be it iurther, Resolved, that the City Clerk notify jaid banks that they will be required ;o cash all labor bilis certifled to by ;he Street Commissioner and approyed by the Board of Public Works withDut discount and charge interest en said amounts at the same rate as paid tor the money. Adopted as follows: Yeas- Aid. Hamilton, Richards, Koch, Sweet, Vaudawarker, Spathelf, Weeks, Coon, Howell, Cady, Stevens, Pres. Luick- 12. Nays- None. Aid. Cady moved that the Council proceed with the confirmation of the City Attorney. Whereupon the nomination of ü. k. Butterüeld as City Attorney was confirmed. Adopted as follows: Yeas- Aid. Hamilton, Richards, Sweet,Vandawarker, Spathelf, Weeks, Coon, Howell, Cady, Stevens- 10. Nays- Aid. Koch, Pres. Luick. Aid. Coon moved that the City Attorney be instructed to prepare a contract with the M. C. R. R. according to suggestions made by the railroad company as presented by Mr. Butterfield, the contract to be subject to the approval of the Common Council. Adopted as follows: Yeas- Aid. Hamilton, Richards, Sweet, Vandawarker, Spathelf, Weeks, Coon, Howell, Stevens- 9, Nays- Aid. Koch, Cady, Pres. Luick. On motion the Council adiourned. City Clerk.
