San Francisco, May 24.- The Charleston is weH on is way to Manila. The big cruiser passed the Golden Gate at 8:20 in the morning, af ter having been anchored in the stream all night. Every steam vessel in the harbo blew au revoir to Captain Glass and hi crew. None of the forts in the har bor saluted the vessel, but the dem onstration made by the 6,000 soldier gathered at the Presidio was tre mendous. When the vessel was sight ed coming down the bay the soldier gathered on the beach to bid it bon voy age. They lined the beach for a mile and cheer upon cheer rang out from th men who are to soon folio w the Charles ton to the scène of Admiral Dewey' triumph. The Charleston's big siren answered the boys on the beach tim and again, and the whistling was hear from one end of the city to the other. San Francisco, May 24. - M,ajor Gen eral Otis has issued the following gen eral order: "The First California and the Secon Oregon vojunteers and one battalion o; íe Fourteenth United States lnfantry and a detachment of California heavy artillery, consisting oí an offlcer and iíty men, will constltute a brigade oí he expeditionary forces about to depart from this port and It is plilèed unler the command of Brigadier General Thomas Anderson, United States voluneers. The vessels designated to trans)ort this command are the City of Peking, the City of Sydney and the Australia.
