Colored people, as a class, are not distinguished for a provident spirit, but some of them can see through a millstone if there is achole in it. Witness the following example irom the Atlanta Constitution: "I'm thinking of running for governor, John," said the citizen to one of his colored constituents, "and I want you to help me out." The old man looked thoughtful, and then said: "All right, Marse Torn; but I -wants ter ax you one leadin' question." "Well, what is it?" "How much is you gwine give me when you gits beat?"
