Exciting Sham Battle

Chattanooga, May 30. - The second diision of the First corps of the voluneer army under the command of Brigadier General Poland was involved in n exciting sham battle several hours n the mornirL. About 9,000 men were ngaged and the battle was entirely vaged according to the regulación tacics. The flghting ground was a large area of woods and flelds along the Brotherton road. The Second brigade, omposed of the Sixth Ohio, First West Virginia and One Hundred and Fiftyeighth Indiana, was concealed in the voods. It was attacked by the First brigade, composed of the Third Pennsylvania, Thirty-flrst Michigan and One Hundred and Sixtieth Indiana and one brigade composed of Second Ohio, Fourteenth Minnesota and the First Pennsylvania. The Second brigade, although outnumbered two to one, put up a stlff flght and the attaeking brigade were well worn out bef ore H gave in. No one wás injured during the engagement. The sham battles have proved such good training to the men that the officers have determined to make them of frequent occurrencehereaftpr.
