To Join Schley's Fleet

Key West, May 31.- The cruiser New Orleans, which has been with Rear Admiral Sampson's squadron, sailed last Friday to join Commodore Schley's fleet at Santiago de Cuba. The New York, which came to Key West for coal and to enable Admiral Sampson .to commur.. icate more directly with Washington, sailed with the Oregon for the south side of Cuba Sunday morning, also to join Schley. The assignment of the Oregon and New Orleans to Schley's squadron is significant as indicating a possible intention to force the harbor and repeat Dewey's Manila coup. The New Orleans would be valuable in a narrow passage such as that at Santiago because of her ability to concéntrate her entire battery power forward, while her splendid equipment of rapid-fire gur.s would render her a most dangerous antagonist in a contest with torpedo boat destroyers. The New York being Admiral Sampson's flagship if she goea to Santiago, it would seem that the admiral proposes to assume command himself."
