Sweden will send two scientific expeditions to Spitzbergen next summer. One, under Mr. Jaderin, will try to measure a degree of longitude; the other, under Prof. Nathorst, the paleontologist, will examine the waters to the west of the islands. Prof. Na-thorst has engaged the steamer Antarctic and takes a staff of seven scientific men with him. He will steam along the west coast of Spitzbergen, then northeast toward King Karl's Land and Gillisland, taking deep-sea soundings and collecting natural history specimens.
