New York, June 7. - Admiral Sampson's action in sacrifieing the collier Merrimac to block the entrance to Santiago harbor has revived unpleasant comment that was occasioned at the time of her purchase and has given rise to the statement that the experiment was too costly inasmuch as Cervera already seemed to have been effectually "bottled up." The boat cost the government $342,000, and was the largest collier in commission.
