New York, June 6. - A dispateh to The World from Kingston. Jamaica, says that terror reigns in the city of Santiago. Information has been received that the Cubans made a furious attack in the rear of the city while Sampson tore the harbor fortifications to pieces with shot and shell. This has kept the Spaniards too busy to send out elaborately exultant dispatches over the sinking of the Jlerrimac. A Journal dispateh says: The object in f.ending the Merrimac into Santiago was to sink her and block the entrance to the harbor. It is not known whether she was sunk by.her own crew or by the Spanish. No lives were lost.
