The democratio connty oonvention, which was held in the coait house Wednesday, proveo to be a well attend3d, harnaonious, and business oonvention. The attendanoe was all the more gratifying as 110 contest was being made wbioh wonld tend to draw the democrats away from their work. Yet the court bonse was fnll and all parts of the oonnty well represented. The delegations seleoted were also widely soattered abont the connty and the sentiment of the party justly represented witb an entire absence of any diotation rule. In other words no delegates were selected to go to eitber the state, oongressional or senatorial oonventions ahead of this oonvention. The convention was aalled to order by Martin J. Cavanaugb who called Sid W. Millard to the chair, and Mr. Millard did credit to the selection of the county committee. S. W. Beakes was eleoted secretary pro tem. The following oommittees were then appointed on motion of J. L. Dnffy : Credentials: John Clark, York; Frank Dettling, Freedom ; C. L. Tnoniy, Aun Arbor town. Resolntions: Chas. A. Ward, Ann Arbor; John Terus, Ypsilanti; Wm. Lehman, Sylvan. Permaanent Organization and Order of Business: Artbnr Brown, Ann Arbor; J. Manly Young, Saline; F. J. Hammond, Augusta. The conventipn then adjourned for dinner after wbioh tbe oommittee on order of business and organization reported in favor of making the temporary organization permanent and tbe election of two delegates at large to the state, congressional and senatorial convention and the reruaining delegates by townships and wards according to the apportionment table prepared. The oommittee on credentials reported 229 delegates entitled to seats. The committee on resolutiona presented the following resolutions wbich were unanimously adopted : Whereaa it is proper for a party at the inception of a oampaign to declare its principies and purposes therefore Be it resolved, by tbe Demooracy of Wasbtenaw county in oonvention assembled, that we declare our allegiaoo to the prinoiples of Jeffersonian Demooracy enunoiated in oor national oonvention ; that we corumend. the action of democratio senators and representativas in oongress supporting tbe efforts of American people to plant the flag of freedoin upon the soil of long-suffering Cuba and drive the last vestige of Spanish tyranny ftom tbe Amerioan continent ; that we rejoice in the glorions sucoess which has already attended Amerioan anus in this strnggle, and hope for a speedy and sncoessfnl termination of the war. That we condernn the wastaful extravagance uf the Repnblioan party in tbis state and favor a polioy of retrenohment and eoonomy in state affairs, and that we favor tbe just and eqnal taxation of all property, private and ootporate.
