When finished, the tramp asked for some clothing, and the girl replied that there were no men in the house. Then the fellow became insolent and demanded money, and, being refused, seized the girl by the throat and hissed, in true melodramatic style, "Have a care, woman, how you thwart me!" Without exhibiting any alarm the girl picked up the pan of dough and overturned the contente on the rufflan's head.
