All the indioations show tbat Michigan will again con tribute its share of sensations to tüe glorious and ever popular American sport of harnees raoing tbis year. This is partionlarly trne of Detroit, whose Bloe Ribbon meeting is an event of nationaf irnportanoe and is flttingly placed at the head of the famons series known as the Grand Circuit. While there are a myriad tracks in all parts of the ooontry ambitions to be known as the best, the splendid grouuds ot the Detroit Driving Clnb are by conimon consent pronounced the finest place iu the world for a big trotting carnival. The enterprise that seoured the land for the magnifioent conrse at Grosse Pointe and eqnipped it as no other track is fitted to accommodate its patrons, did not stop there. fiealizing tbat it always takes money to ruake the mare go, the Detroit Clnb gives bigger purses and offers greater indnoements for fast miles tuan any other member of the Grand Cironit. There is nothing to compare in valne with its famons Merohants' and .Manufacturera' Stake throughont the length and breadth of the snmmer tonr with the snlkies. When tbe tenth of the exoiting raoes for this rich prize is deoided on Jnly 19, the snm of 1103,520 will have been distributad among the bieeders and owners who were luoky enongh to win a share of this stake which brings together the greatest treiters in the land. Michigan has oairied off the coveted plum on two occasions; tbe gray geldng, Hendryx, of Dowagiao, oaptnring the first race for the "M. and M." in 1889, while three years later the young mare Siva won a great victory for the farm at Clairview where she is still owned. The candidates for this season are 20 in nnraber aod tbey represent the best blood, and are being trained by the most skilJful reinsmen oo the tnrf. Than there is the Cbamber of Commerce Stake of $5,000, which is tae largest amouut offered to the yonng pacéis by any assooiation. Like its companion event for the trotters this raoe has always been sensational and the horse that wins it this year will have to reel off the heats well below the 2:10 mark. Beaides these two attractions three otber stakes and pnrses that fóot np $7,500 bave received enfries from al the oiack stables. This ensnres the presence of the fastest trotters and pacers now in training, and Bine Ribbon week that extends f rum Joly 18 to 23 will be asj before the greatest raoing event of the year. The Detroit Driving Clnb employs the best talent to officiate at its meetings hd the character of the sport at the Grosse Pointe track is always above reproach.
