A very enjoyable sohool picnic was held last Satnrday at Whitmore Lake, by Distriot No. 3, Ann Arbor town. Between 200 and 300 people were present, some of the neighboring schools attending in a body. After dinner, whioh was served in the grove, the people were invitad by the teacher, Miss Lettie Carroll, to assemble in Smitb'a hall, where a treat in the forrn of a program was put upon the stage. Forty-fourpupils took part in the program and reflected runcb credit npon their teacher and tbemselves. The olosing nnmber particalarly elioited much applanse. At a signal from the droru major, Charles Meade, the flag bearer, Athneil Braun, entered and stationed birusef at the end of the hall. At a second signal, 44 of "Dewey's Eeornits bearing flags entered in step to "Marohing Through Georgia" played by Theresa Meade and the drnm major. The drill was well carried ont and at its close they gave fnll vent to their patriotism by singiug "America Forever. " The piomotion cards and prizes were tben distribnted by the teacher. The jrize winners were as follows: Mary Shnis penmanship, Matie Nanry and Sylvia Braun, attendance (having made the remarkable reoord of being, present every day dnring the nine montbs), ; Celia O'Neil, MattieNanry.Carl Branu and May O'Neil, spelling. The director, M. Brann, made a few appropriate remarks on tbe valne of an edncation and the necessity of instillng patriotism into the children. Thus ended a day long to be remembered by the cbildren of District No. 3.
