Lodfcolz and 12 others asking for an additional patrolman on the Ñorthside was read and referred to the Pólice Comnaittee. A petition signed by JST. Woodmansee and 12 others asking for the grading of Geddes ave. was read and referred to the Street Committee. A petition signed by C. F. Lutz and 11 others asking for the pavement of the alley west of Main st. between Ann st. and Miller ave. was read and referred to the Street Committee. A petition signed by JTred Radke, jr., and 18 others asking for a side walk on Second st. was read and referred to the Sidewalk Committee. The bids for f urnisbing coal for the City for the ensuing year were read and referred to the Pinance Committee. To the Common Council : The Board of Public Works herewith submits the estimates of the City Engineer for the work ordered at your last session, for your consideration. Glen V. To the Common Council: Your Committee' on Streets would ■reeommend that $400 be appropriated for turnpiking Main st. f rom Catherine o Depot. That Broadway be graveled from the bridge to Jones st. the gravel to be placed in the center of the road. That a culvert be built across Third at. between Huron and Washington sts. at an estimated cost of $175. That the engineer f urnish grade for Pear st. and that the Street Commissioner clean up the ref use in the street. That a grade be established on Oxïord st. per proflle and resolution submitted by the engineer. Your Committee would f urther reommend that the city furnish the stone and the property owners pave the gutter at their own expense on the north side of Hill betweeu State and Packard. John Koch, F. Koch: Whereas, in tbe opinión of the Council tbe grade on Oxford st. ought to be ehanged and fised and established, to the end that such street may be made snitable for public travel and traffic. Therefore Kesolved, and it is hereby ordered that the grade on Oxford st. f rom northeast line of Washtenaw ave. to the center line of Eill st. be, and the same is hereby changed from the present grade and flxed and established, so that the grade on and along such street shall be as follows, that Í3 to say: At the n. e. east line of Washtenaw , ave 874.50 ft. Uentlemen:Your Board of Health at their last meeting passed a resolution in which we ask the council to instruct the Board of Public Works, to have all the store property on the west side, of sout#State street between Liberty and Williams connected with the sewer, this to be done as soon as possible as the sanitary condition there is very bad. Respectfully submitted Board of Health, Eli W. Moore, Pres. H. B. Dodsley, Insp'r. E. A. Clark Health Officer. Aid. Cady moved that the report be received and ordercd filed. Aid. Brown moved as a substitute that the work be ordered done by the council as recommended by the Board of Health. Adopted as follows: Yeas--Ald. To the Common Council of the City of Aan Arbor: Gentlemen: -Persuant to your resolution passed at the last regular meeting directing me to secure options on the lands of Lennon, Rhodes and Weeks in the fifth ward for the purpose of a park, I beg leave to report that I understand that a right of way may be obtained f rom Wall street running north pasterly along the Huron river across the lands of George Rhodes for five hundred dollars including the island in the river1 near the north east end of said way; that a continuation of that right of way may be secured across the lands of George Weeks for the sum of one hundred dollars ; that all of the lands owned by S. D. Lennon lying between Cedar Bend Avenue and the Huron River comprising sorne fifteen acres may be obtained for the purpose aforesaid for the sum of one thousand dollars, provided the city will agree to rnaintain the fences, and also provided toe deed contains certain restrictions concerning the peaceful and orderly regulation of the park. If any further steps are to be taken concerning this matter, I would recommend that the City Engineer be ed to prepare a plat of the ground and a description thereof, to be submitted to ttais counoil at its next recular meeting. City Attorney Butterfleld stated to the Council that the Detroit, Ypsüanti and Ann Arbor Railway Company had refused to pave between the outer ends of the ties on Mam street but had expressed a willingness as a compromise to put in iron poles; also to lay steel girder (?) rails upon a concrete foundation with steel ties. Aid. Hamilton moved that the City Attorney take the necessary action to compel the said Detroit, Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor Railway Company to do the work as ordered by resolution June 9, 1898 and according to the franchise of the said Railway CompaDy. Adopted as follows: Yeas - Aid. Hamilton, Richards, Koen, Dieterle, Sweet, Exinger, Vandawarker, Brown, Spatbelf. Weeks, Howell, Cady, Stevens, Pres. Luick-14. Nays- Aid. Coon. MOTIONS AND ReSOLUTIOXS. By Aid. Spathelf. Resolved, that the Board of Fire Comtnissioners be empowered to purchase a wagon at an expense not to exceed $60.00; also to put new floor in the east apparatus room and barn at a cost not to exceed $150.00. Adopted as follows : Yeas- Aid. Hamilton, Richards, Koch, Dieterle, Sweet, Exinger, Vandawarker, Brown, Spathelf, Weeks, Coon, Howell, Cady, , Stevens, Pres. Luick - 15, Nays- None. Aid. Hamilton moved that the Board of Public Works be ordered to fill that part of the cat hole lying in the street at the corner of Walnut and S. University avenue. Adopted as follows : Yeas - Aid. Hamilton, Richards, Koch, Dieterle, Sweet, Exinger, Vandawarker, Brown, Spathelf, Weeks, Coon, Howell, Cady, Stevens, Pres. Luick - 15. Nays - None. Aid. Cady moved that a Michigan Telephone be ordered into the residence of Wm. H. Mclntyre. Adopted as follows : Yeas- Aid. Hamilton, Richards, Koch, Dieterle, Sweet, Exinger, Vandawarker, Brown, Spathelf, Weeks, Coon, Howell, Cady, Stevens, Pres. Luick- 15. Nays - None. Aid. Brown moved that the Board of Public Works be directed to purchase twenty thousand feet of 3-inch oak plank at $15.00 per thousand. Adopted as follows: Yeao- Aid. Hamilton, Richards, Koch, Dieterle, Sweet, Exinger, Vandawarker. Brown, Spathelf, Weeks, Coon, Howell, Cady, Stevens, Pres. Luick - 15. Nays - None. The subject of improving Baldwin avenue and E.
