Shafter To The Front
Kingston, Jamaica, June 28.- [Copyright, 198, by The Associated Press.]- Major General Shafter, in command of he United States army of invasión, has arrived at Juaragua on board the transport Seguranca, from Baiquiri, with Colonel John Jacob Astor, Captain St.ewart Brice and Lieutenants Milay and Noble, and his staff at about 2 o'clock in the afternoon. He was met jy GeneraJ Bates, who was superinending the landing of commissary supjlies in the surf. General Shafter, in uil uniform and wearing a straw helrnet, was soon mounted on a large, ïandsome horse, and rode through the own, surveying the scène of the landng operations and the camps of the roops. He halted for a moment beore the cottage which serves as the headquarters of the Cuban insurgents, nd where Generáis García and Castillo paid their respects to the American ommander. About an hour later General Shafter truck out on the road to the front in rder to consult with General Wheelr and the división commanders, and ook over the field of operations before Santiago de Cuba. The general said e would probably return to the Juargua headquarters at night. Permanent ospital arrangements are to be proided at Juaragua at once.
