Grass Lake News : The Adu Arbor Durnocrat of Jast week contains a strikiug wood cut likeness of Judge H. Wirt Newkirk of that city. Tbia work of art evinces the flavor of a genuine VanDyke, with all the softaess and delicaoy of treatrnent of the refaed Dutoh school. The face is in repose and would pass for an ideal classic of the Thernistoeleau period of Grecian art, or the Augustian era of the oLisel's glory in the Eternal City. The view of the face is fcom the uorthwest, with tbe sinister ear rising in pretty perspective on a sonth-southeast backgroand. This organ of bearing is given muleonlar prominente and looks like the embouchure of a big horn of plenty or a larga unvalvular pericarp. The eyes are melting. gazalle-like and espressive, with that dreamy droop of eydbrow whioh gives the Hellenic Apollo such '.vitcbery, while the nose, flrmly buttressed on the north side, imparts a strength to tbe face tbat even an efterninate moatb cauuot deprive of its Jovelike dignity. Tbe beetliug brow is Napoleonic rather thau Websterian, witb a capillary profusiĆ³n crowning the dorne of tbongbt that implies a strict avoidance of bat or cap vvearing iudoors. It is a good religions face, sufficiently npholstered with flesh to hide the cbeek bones and prove to the world tbat its owner never goes back on pork and beaus.
