Sir Charles Gavan Duffy relates that he once had put into his hands by a Lostess a volume containing some of his own poems and was asked for his opinión oí them. ' ' Dreadf ui drivel, ' ' replied the modest Sir Charles. His hostess flushed. "I don't mind your laughing at me, " she said, "bufc pray don't laugh at verses which carne to me from the very heart of my husband when we first knew each other and which I will treasure to my dying day. "
