Statement By Cervera

Kingston, Jamaica, July 5.- The first and only statement concerning the recent naval battle made by the Spanish commander, Admiral Cervera, was to a correspondent of the Associated Press on board the battleship Iowa. It was as follows: "I would rather lose my ships at sea, like a sallor, than in a harbor. It was the only thing left for me to do."
