H. W. Collingwood, in au address at the recent meeting of the New Jersey State Horticultural society, reniarked : I believe that a great ruauy farmers and. fruit growers have come to the conclusión that the old fashioned plow is a back number. On my farm I plowed only two acres last year and I was sorry I did that. Ou a light sandy loam the cutaway harrow does better work than the plow, because vre do not want to plow so deep. Our land has been plowec to death.. We use the disk harrow anc the ordinary cutaway harrow, instèac of the plow. We concluded that there was something the matter with oursoil, or with the wood ashes, as it did nol bring a good erop. My experience has convinced me that the ashes contain lime and that the stable manure is alkaline, which acts contrary to the solubles in the soil. I dou't believe in turniug it from the bottom side up. I believe that those disks and cutaway harrows are better than plows.
